Douglas Edward is a festival award-winning composer whose music has supported many films that have screened at international festivals, including the RealHeART Film Festival in Toronto, the Hollywood HD/DV Film Festival in Los Angeles, and the Cannes Film Market in Paris.

Douglas is a classically trained Violinist and Pianist who also performs on the Viola, Cello, and Guitar. He has a degree in Music Composition and Theory with extensive credits in Accompanying, Choir, Piano/Violin Performance, Orchestration, and New Music. Douglas possesses an impassioned musical writing style, an eclectic blend of electronic with acoustic instruments, and emotive orchestral timbres that help in producing the best scores possible for all types of filmmakers.

Kiko Martinez from the SA Current had this to say about one of his feature films, "The best thing about the film - hands down - is the fantastic score composed by Douglas Edward". Douglas received an award for Artistic Excellence in "Best Impact of Music in a Feature Film" from the 2008 Park City Film Music Festival, an award for "Best Movie Soundtrack" from the 2008 Bare Bones International Film Festival, and the Columbine Award for "Best Film Score" from the 2008 Moondance International Film Festival.

"I believe the most important aspect of any piece of music is the delicate use of emotion", the composer explains. "The right type of emotion, the right amount, and at just the right time. That is why I am such an advocate for using real instruments in place of their synthetic replicas. A single well-performed orchestral instrument is much more impactful to my ears than an entire digital symphony."

Douglas has written music for many directors including Bruce Guido, Aaron Marquette (Judas: One of Twelve), Kerry Valderrama (Garrison), Benjamin Wilbanks (Journey to Iraq), Pablo Veliz (7 Kilos), Robert Paschall Jr (Cheaters), Gregory Mansur (freelanced for KRON-TV, BBC-TV, NOVA, and National Geographic TV), Charles LaMendola (six time Telly Award-winning writer/director), and Richard Allen (former Head Writer for NBC's Days of Our Lives and two time Emmy Award-winning Associate Writer for CBS's As the World Turns).

Douglas draws from his live and studio experience, having performed hundreds of shows at various Dallas venues such as Trees, the Hard Rock Cafe, House of Blues, Granada Theater, Curtain Club, and Nokia Live, as well as on various radio stations, such as KWBU 107.1 FM, KTCU 88.7 FM "The Good Show", and KDGE 102.1 FM "The Edge". Douglas has performed with various bands/artists such as Brandin Lea, John Price, Calhoun, and The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash while appearing on many recordings as Violinist, Violist, Cellist, and Pianist with such groups as Alan, The Black Tie Dynasty, Brasco, The February Chorus, and Flickerstick.

Douglas Edward Polhamus was born on an air force base in California. He started classical Piano lessons upon his family's return to the United States from Germany when he was 9 years old. He started taking classical Violin lessons two years later and began writing music then as well. Douglas received many awards while in grade school for his composition pieces and solo performances. He performed competitively with his middle and high school orchestras, with the South Texas All-Region Orchestra, numerous pit orchestra performances with musicals, and as a soloist at several University Interscholastic League Solo-Ensemble Contests and many Northeast String Invitationals. He performed competitvely with solo Piano performances in various competitions including the National Fraternity of Student Musicians events and numerous San Antonio Music Teachers Association events. Douglas participated in annual Texas Music Teachers Association Music Theory tests at UTSA , and eventually took composition lessons at Trinity University. He was honored to hear two of his string orchestra pieces performed live as well.

Douglas continued Classical Piano and Violin lessons through college, eventually getting a degree in Music Composition from the University of North Texas in 2001. He wrote numerous contemporary pieces with approximately a half dozen of them performed live. He briefly doubled as a Music Ed Major, and had the opportunity to learn how to play the Clarinet, Oboe, Flute, Saxophone, Trumpet, and Trombone. Consumed by a rigirous practice schedule, he found the time to write his first stage score in 1996 and his first film score in 1999, both while attending UNT.

All in all, Douglas took 15 years of classical Piano lessons, 9 years of classical Violin lessons, 6+ years of Composition lessons, and 2 years of classical Guitar classes. He is self taught on several instruments including the Viola, Cello, Electric Guitar, and Bass as well as with various computer programs such as Nuendo, Cubase, Reason, Pro Tools, Finale, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash.

Douglas currently spends his time writing original music for Film and other media.
